Lots to celebrate this year with the SA Wine of Origin Scheme turning 50 on 1 September, and the SA Terroir Wine Awards being in its 18th year. Big thanks to Marius (Lappies) Labuschagne for the foresight in starting these awards to showcase the best expression of the variety in their area.

Kobus Burger from Rietvallei Wine Estate had his hands full having won the SA Terroir Trophy for the Top Producer (not for the first time either!) boasting the highest number of top estate-produced wines, including two National Winners – namely the Rietvallei JMB Cabernet Franc 2019 and the top red blend, the Rietvallei Estéanna Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc 2019 – as well as bagging six area winners in the Robertson District.

It is clearly the year of unusual varieties with the relatively new Arbeidsgenot Wines in Riebeek Kasteel walking off with 3 trophies! Jaco Brand was beaming from ear to ear.

Lanzerac certainly pulled out the stops with a delicious lunch.
